Easy Breezy Shawl

Available as a Kit (yarn + PDF ) + Printable PDF in my Etsy + Ravelry

A bit of inspo behind the name:

When this new line of yarn came out from Lion Brand, I thought it’d be fun to mix a few of these lovely skeins together and make a lightweight shawl with this pretty palette.  It also happens to be the most perfect Aran weight (I love Aran weight), it held its shape, glided off my hook, and had a good drape while working up quickly!! Lately, I’m loving shawls of all sizes and shapes as they're perfect accessories to whatever the weather throws at you.

Photo visuals added to the PDF to make this even easier to work up!

CONSTRUCTION:

If you love a double crochet buckle up - have I got something for you! :) This one is all about how many variations of dc texture you can get and its alllll good!! I love a dc as you most likely know, because they work up quick, have a fun motion with the hook and create a drape and airiness that goes magically with any accessory when it’s an added layer. Plus you don’t wanna get too hot or too cold.

For this one you will be lulled into some relaxation time with your yarn AND before you know it, you’re switching up your stitch technique and off on a new adventure! This design is worked in two pieces with one seam in the center becoming a focal point as you wrap it around.

If you don’t know how to do a Slip Stitch seam, please check out my Instagram for a simple tutorial. If you change the seam to a whip stitch it would have the same effect. If you just aren’t a fan of the Slip Stitch, I recommend subbing a Single Crochet seam, VERY similar and you’ll still get that clean line when it’s wrapped!

Here’s an overview of it!

  1. We’re creating 2 identical pieces except one uses Color A+B and the 2nd one uses C+D.

  2. I cut my yarn between color changes and weaved in the ends.

  3. Once you seam the two pieces together to form one long shawl, you’ll add fringe to each end.

HOW TO GET THE PDF ONLY:

I hope you love this new design!  If you need your yarn or want to match mine exactly, I recommend getting the kit via Lion Brand Yarn which includes my pattern for FREE, but if you have a lovely stash at home perfect for this, you can pick up the printable PDF in my Etsy and Ravelry shops to work on at your leisure! Whichever storefront you prefer!

LET'S TALK YARN!!

This yarn is NEW with Lion Brand Yarn and right away I love that its a medium worsted, Aran weight. It has a fantastic palette of beautiful neutrals that when paired up can also be a fantastic colorful blend to whatever you’re dreaming up! It is completely locally sourced in the US from start to finish! The wool is locally grown on the east coast and they cut, spin and dye the cozy wool to complete the process! I really liked how even tho it’s 100% Wool its not scratchy, in fact its soft, squishy and light when worn! It has a GORGEOUS flow on the hook and needles too, yes I did a swatch in both :)

As an ultimate test I did my photoshoot for this shawl when it was over 90* outside AND I didn’t get overly hot as this was on my neck. In fact, I forgot I had it on :) It was smooth and light as it draped to compliment my outfit! I think you may find my living in this one as I bolt out the door throughtout Fall!

Something else fantastic about this color palette which I think Lion Brand NAILED is the palette. Picking colorways can be some of the hardest decisions when the colors are this good, lol, but also one of the more fun parts of the process. I wanted to share with you some of my favorite 4 color pair-ups to get if you want to pick up the kit and make one for you or someone you love! I hope you love this and I can’t wait to see your color combos, don’t forget to tag me on my IG, or you can send me an email through my website if you just wanna quietly share what you worked up!

GAUGE:

Gauge is also super flexible with this one but if you’re needing to make one, heres how I do it!

It’s best to make your swatch slightly bigger than what the pattern states it should measure so you can measure it in the center of your square, getting an accurate reading. You can do this by adding 2 additional stitches and working 2 additional rows.  Do not count the first and last stitch in your measurement or the first and last row.

Hook Size Suggestions:

  • If your swatch has less stitches, swatch again using a smaller hook.

  • If your swatch has more stitches, swatch again using a larger hook.
