Easy Peasy DC Throw

This throw named itself! When I first got this yarn a few years back from Lion Brand Yarn it was to make my Surrey Hooded Fox Blanket! That one’s really cute btw and comes in kids through adult size, so don’t miss that one! This yarn was my second skein I got and sadly it sat on my shelf for a little bit until inspo struck!

royal blue double crochet blanket throw. Easy crochet pattern.

The brilliant thing about this yarn is the skein is it’s over a foot long. It only takes one skein to make an entire throw and you know what that means - only two ends to weave in!! The beginning and end chain is all you have to deal with. One day last month when I was tidying up my yarn, it suddenly hit me what I wanted to make. My favorite stitch is the dc, and I thought how cool would this #6 yarn be with such a tall but not too tall stitch. I love the looping motion as you work a dc, and I love the line texture it gives you when worked in rows. Knowing I was going to use this entire skein though, I knew I’d have no yarn left over for an edging, so having the chain count as a stitch was crucial for this one. Counting the chain makes the edges super straight, so when you’re done crocheting, you’re done with the entire project.

A quick to make comfy and chunky throw! Perfect to cozy up in!

My throw only took a casual 4 hrs of working on it. Imagine this… You wake up in the A.M. with no project, you start after breakfast and before evening rolls around you have a comfy throw to curl up and watch tv with! This throw is SO super easy and FUN to make! Yarn + stitch combo for the win!

This throw is also super easy to customize to your preferred sizing. I wanted mine semi-square so it’s wide enough in case I have a cold kiddo or pup who wants to share or take my blanket… Haha! I’m already going to make another, now that my youngest has requested a pink one. Yarn is on order now!

Customizing the math goes like this… My gauge worked up to one stitch at just over an inch. If you want a thinner blanket with an extra row or two in length, I would minus as many stitches as inches as you want. Taking away 4 would give you just under 4” in width removed. That will give you an extra few inches in length.

Want this blanket big enough to fit on a bed or a really big throw? Get two skeins! You could easily double my measurements or just use half of a second skein and adjust the width and length as you’d like to!

Here’s a peak at the other colors still available in this skeins line. The Grey is what I used for the Surrey Fox Hooded Blanket. Love that one! The pink is the one next up for that pattern.

Happy crocheting! It’s quick and easy to make and most importanly COZY!

I hope you love the pattern! If you prefer to knit or would love another project in this yarn, don’t miss my maker friend Yessy of YessysDesigns who created this wonder long knit scarf. Remember that using size 13 needles and this chunky yarn not only will it be cozy cozy, but it will knit up in a flash!

NOTES

  1. Chain counts as a stitch throughout the pattern.

  2. This pattern uses up the entire skein, with just a spare yard or two.

  3. Blanket sizing is Square in shape.

  4. Depending on your gauge, if you have more or less yarn remaining, you can skip or add a row before working your final RS row.

  5. To adjust your blanket width and add length, use fewer chains in the beginning (every chain is just under one inch). This will make it less wide and that will give you additional rows for length. Customization is as easy as that with this one.

  6. To make your blanket bigger all around, use two skeins. You can add sts to increase the width and work rows until the desired length.

  7. (Optional) Steam block when done.

GAUGE

**Please check your gauge before you start this Pattern to match the finished measurements:

It’s best to make your swatch slightly bigger than what the pattern states it should measure, so you can measure it in the center of your square, getting an accurate reading. You can do this by adding 2 additional stitches and work 2 additional rows.  Do not count the first and last stitch in your measurement or the first and last row.

Hook Size Suggestions:

  • If your swatch has less stitches, swatch again using a smaller hook.

  • If your swatch has more stitches, swatch again using a larger hook.

A bit of inspiration behind the name:

When this huge skein debuted with Lion Brand Yarn a few years back, I instantly loved it and wanted to try it.  I actually have another pattern in this yarn called the Surrey Fox Hooded Blanket, so yea, I’m a fan!  It works up super quick, comes out super soft, what’s not to like?  Flash forward to this year when inspo hit after seeing this skein on the shelf.  I wanted an squarish, big and comfy throw.  Keeping it simple in the details was also a big plus.  Working it up in my favorite stitch, a dc, also made this the quickest blanket to make!  In about 4 hrs of casual sitting I was done, and it’s oh so cozy! I hope you love it too!
